What the words mean
- Licensed sponsor
- A university or college the Home Office allows to sponsor students. Check yours is on the register before you pay any fee.
- CAS
- Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies — the reference your college gives you once you have an offer. The visa application needs it.
- Maintenance
- Money you have to show you hold, for your fees and living costs, usually for a set period before you apply.
What to do first
Step 1. Check your college is a licensed sponsor before you accept an offer.
Step 2. Get your offer and your CAS reference.
Step 3. Check what money you need to show, and for how long it must have been in the account.
Step 4. Check whether you need an English language test, and book it early.
Step 5. Apply on GOV.UK, and do not book flights until you have a decision.

Your English test result, if one is needed
Tuberculosis test results, if your country requires them
