The letter itself tells you two things that matter more than anything else: the deadline, and whether you have a right of appeal. Find those first.

You are here. The dates that matter are on your letter.

Right of appeal: Whether the decision can be challenged at a tribunal. The letter says whether you have one, and what the deadline is.
Administrative review: A different route from an appeal, used for some decisions, with its own deadline. The letter says which applies.

Step 1. Find the date on the letter and any deadline in it. Write the deadline down.
Step 2. Read what the letter says about a right of appeal or a review.
Step 3. Contact a regulated adviser today, not next week. Deadlines here are short.
Step 4. Ask about legal aid if you cannot pay.
Step 5. Keep the letter and the envelope. Do not write on the letter.

Whether to appeal, on what grounds, and what to say are legal questions with a deadline attached. A regulated adviser can act on them. We cannot.
